EQUINE-ASSISTED THERAPY

Equine-assisted Therapy focuses on the overall connection between animal and human, with the goal to support physical, mental, and emotional growth.

It includes using the horse's movement for physical therapy, addressing psychological challenges through interactions with horses, and teaching riding skills for overall well-being.

Equine-assisted Therapy is beneficial emotionally, physically, and cognitively, for individuals with neurological, psychological, and physical challenges.

ENVIRONMENT

Equine-assisted therapy is done in a controlled barn environment, facilitated by trained professionals, and requires a structured environment with light and sound control to ensure the safety of both the participants and the horses.

To defray the expenses of running a barn scholars and researches suggest using renewable energy resources such as solar energy for electricity, rainwater harvesting to conserve water, and composting horse manure to enrich the surrounding soil.

   SOLAR ENERGY

Solar Energy is the power obtained from the sun’s radiation. It is harnessed using technologies like photovoltaic panels, which convert sunlight directly into electricity. This renewable energy source is abundant and can reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

   RAINWATER HARVESTING

Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and storing rainwater for later use. It involves capturing runoff from rooftops, land surfaces, or other areas and storing it in tanks, and barrels.

This water can be used for horse hygiene, stall cleaning, feeding, and area maintenance. A working therapy barn could use up to a thousand gallons of water per day. The rainwater conservation method could improve the budget and alleviate the overall dependency on municipal water supplies.

COMPOST HORSE MANURE

Composting horse manure is the process of turning manure into nutrient-rich soil through natural decomposition.

Proper composting involves managing the manure pile’s moisture, temperature, and aeration to break down organic matter efficiently. The resulting compost can be used to improve garden soil and enhance plant growth. Additionally, composted horse manure can be used to grow grass in the turnout areas of the barn and support pasture growth, providing a sustainable food source for the horses.
